Compliance Lens — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 05/08/2026
Compliance Lens is a browser extension published by Symbolic Data (“we”, “us”). This policy explains
what the extension does with data. In short: the extension analyses web pages entirely on your device and, by default, sends nothing anywhere.
The short version
- All scanning and analysis happen locally, in your browser. Compliance Lens works fully offline.
- We do not operate any server that receives your browsing data. We do not track you.
- The extension contains no advertising SDKs, no analytics trackers of its own by default, and no
remote code. Every line it runs ships inside the extension package. - By design, data can leave your browser in only two situations, both of which you choose: (1) when
you submit the “Request a full audit” contact form, and (2) if you turn on optional usage
analytics, which is off by default. - In the current version, neither is connected to a server — the extension transmits nothing at all.
What the extension processes locally (and never transmits)
When you run a scan, the extension inspects the current tab: its cookies, the third-party domains the
page contacts, the page’s consent state, and page signals such as forms and consent banners. This
analysis and your recent scan results are stored locally on your device using the browser’s
extension storage, so your latest report opens quickly and you can compare scans. Scan history is
capped and old entries are removed automatically. You can clear it at any time from the extension’s
Options page. None of this information is sent to us or to anyone else.
The extension observes network requests passively to identify trackers; it never blocks, modifies, or
records the contents of those requests, and it discards query strings.
Data you choose to send us: the audit request form
If you click “Request a full audit” and submit the form, the extension sends the following to Symbolic
Data so we can respond to your enquiry:
- your name and email address;
- the company and website you are enquiring about;
- an optional message; and
- only if you tick the box, a summary of the current scan result.
We use this information solely to respond to your audit enquiry and to provide the professional audit
service you are asking about. We do not sell or rent it, do not share it with third parties for
their own marketing, and do not use it to assess creditworthiness. We retain it only as long as needed
for that purpose and as required by law. To request access to or deletion of this data, contact us at
[email protected].
If you never submit the form, we never receive any of this.
Current version note: in the version of Compliance Lens currently distributed, the audit form is
not connected to any server – it displays an “inactive” state and cannot transmit anything. When a
future update enables it, this policy will be updated first to name the service that processes the
form data.
Optional usage analytics
The extension has an analytics setting that is disabled by default. If you choose to enable it, the
extension would send only anonymous, aggregate usage counts (for example, how many scans were run)
to help us improve the product. It would never include page content, the URLs you visit, cookie
data, or anything that identifies you. You can turn it off again at any time from the Options page.
This setting is present but no analytics data is transmitted in the current version — there is no
analytics backend in the distributed build.
Cookies
Compliance Lens does not set cookies of its own. It reads cookies present on the page you are scanning purely to display and classify them locally. It does not write, change, or delete them.
Children
Compliance Lens is a professional tool and is not directed at children.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
